Delilah Morgan and her older sister Destiny have been on their own for two years, since their parents burned down the family home and went to jail for cooking meth. She’s street smart and tough. Nothing about her says sixteen, and she’s not about to tell anyone, especially Bran, the hot ex-marine bartender Destiny has her eye on. He’s stable and successful and everything her sister needs to keep them off the street. The only problem, something about Bran inspires her and suddenly she’s writing the best music she ever has. About him.

Branson Silo knows what it means to be in the line of fire. Home for a year from his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, he thinks he’s safe…until he meets Delilah. Despite her sharp tongue that makes him want to take cover, he can’t deny the attraction. But when he hires her to play weekends at his family’s saloon, he finds out she’s more than he can handle…which is saying something considering he used to blow things up for a living.

When the grenade finally explodes and the shrapnel flies, will Bran be left standing? Or has he survived years at war only to be taken down by Jail Bait?

excerpt

I’m blending a pair of frozen daiquiris with one hand and shaking a martini with the other when out of the corner of my eye, I see a solo blonde slide onto the barstool at the end, near the beer taps. I finish what I’m doing and prepare the tray for Carol to pick up before glancing over and seeing its Destiny.

A guy in the middle of the bar makes eye contact and nods at his empty beer mug. I grab it and start filling without really looking up at her. “Didn’t think I’d see you again till closer to closing.”

“Sorry?” she says. “Are you talking to me?”

The voice is off—slightly raspy and a pitch lower than her usual. I look up again and squint at her, wondering if she’s already started drinking. She’s taken her straight hair down from the ponytail she always wears it in and it’s not as long as I remember it from the other night—the only other time I’ve seen it down. There’s also a fading blue stripe cutting through the platinum over her right ear that I’ve never noticed before.

“What can I get you?” I ask her instead of pushing it.

I’m already reaching for the vodka and cranberry to start on a Madras, her drink of choice last week, when she answers, “Rum and Coke.”

“That’s different,” I mutter, shooting her another glance.

She gives me a puzzled look. “Look, I really just wanted to find out if you hire entertainment.”

My face mirrors her puzzlement, I’m sure, as I try to process her statement. “Why?”

She hunches to the side and pulls something up from her feet. I see it’s a battered black guitar case when the narrow end peeks over the top of the bar. “Because I need a gig.”

“Didn’t know you played,” I say, pushing her drink across the bar to her.

That baffled look is back as she pulls it toward her and takes a swallow. I can’t help following the curve of her long neck downward toward a pair of large round tits perfectly outlined by her snug, low-cut T-shirt. She is definitely hot, and if we’re on the same page, then I’ve got nothing to feel guilty about. She wants me to fuck her till she screams? I’m perfectly capable of that. She sets her drink down and catches me staring. She cuts me that wicked smile again, causing my cock to stir. I return the smile, sending the innuendo right back at her.

She props her elbows onto the bar and leans forward, giving me a clear look down her shirt. “Considering that we’ve never met before, I don’t find that surprising.”

I’m so absorbed in images of my face buried in those magnificent tits that it takes me a second to process what she said.

My eyes snap to hers. “Wait…what?”

She reaches across the bar, offering me a hand. “Lilah.”

There’s a full second all I can do is stare, wondering if this is one of those split personality things you hear about sometimes. And in that second, through the dim lighting, I take in all the tiny details—a dark mole at the outer corner of her right eye; her eyes, silver instead of blue; the missing white crescent-shaped scar above Destiny’s right eyebrow; and lips, a little fuller than I remember—which are smirking at me now.

“You’re not Destiny,” I say as it all clicks.

It’s not a question, but she shakes her head. “No. I am most definitely not Destiny.”

“Twins?” I ask.

She cocks her head playfully. “What do you think?”

“You’ve got to be. You’re fucking identical except for the eyes.” I tap my forehead. “And you’re missing a scar.”

Her perfect blond eyebrow raises in amusement. “She’s the pretty one and I’m the smart one.”

I bark out a laugh as I reach across and shake her hand. “Bran Silo. Good to meet you.”

She doesn’t let go of my hand for a second after we’re done shaking—just long enough to send a clear message that she’s interested.

A knot forms in my gut, and I realize it’s guilt. Destiny and I have an understanding, but regardless, I’m pretty sure fucking her sister would be way outside the bounds of gentlemanly behavior. Not that anyone would ever mistake me for a gentleman. “Destiny never mentioned she had a sister.”

“Doesn’t surprise me.” She takes another drink, nearly polishing it off in a few big gulps.

I tip my head at it her glass. “Another?”

“My limit is one,” she says, pushing her glass toward me. “Just Coke this time, thanks.”

Carol sweeps by on her way to the kitchen, dropping an order on my bar. “Thought you left,” she says to Lilah without slowing down. “Careful or your favorite customer might ask for you,” she adds, jerking her head at Mr. Hendricks as she disappears through the swinging door.

I bark out a laugh as I scoop ice into Lilah’s glass and fill it with Coke. “Good to know I’m not the only one.”

Lilah shrugs. “Happens all the time.” She slides out of her chair, lifting the guitar case. “So do you want to hear me play or what?”

I look around the crowded room, loud with chatter, drowning out the background music. “We don’t generally have live entertainment,” I say, which is really an understatement. We’ve never had live entertainment. But for some reason, I’m not willing to shut Lilah down so fast.

When my eyes find her again, annoyed impatience shines loud and clear out of her gaze. “So that’s a no?”

I feel my mouth pull into a cocky half-smile. “I didn’t say that.”

She opens her case and pulls out her guitar, unabashedly climbing through the window I left ajar for her. I watch as she sets herself up on the stool and rests the guitar in her lap, gripping it softly but confidently. She starts strumming, and I expect her to be discrete, since this is basically an audition, but there’s not a shred of self-consciousness or embarrassment anywhere in her disposition as she begins to belt out lyrics—an old No Doubt song that I can’t remember the name of.

The way she plays, as if on instinct; the passion in her voice, and the fact that she’s really fucking good, starts to turn heads at the tables closest to us. As they quiet and listen, more tables still, and soon the only thing she’s competing to be heard over is the Kat Country on the speakers. But she doesn’t decrease her volume. If anything, as eyes find her, she becomes louder, feeding off the attention.

I reach under the bar and click off the stereo, then lean onto the back counter and cross my arms, listening as she finishes one song and launches into the next.

A guy at the bar pulls a five from his pocket and flags me down with it. I grab his beer mug, but he shakes his head. “Is there a tip jar?” he asks with a nod toward Lilah.

I pull a fresh mug from under the bar and he slips the five inside, then I set it at the end of the bar near Lilah. She cuts me a smile and her eyes slide down my body as she sings.

And fuck me. I lean my hands on the bar and press against the lower counter when my dick won’t yield to my will. Without a doubt, everything Destiny has going on, Lilah’s got that and more.

I enjoyed both Getting Dirty and Getting Played and couldn’t wait for Bran’s turn in Getting Hot.  I loved getting to know Bran and Delilah.  Getting Hot could have easily been a story about a twenty-six year old and a sixteen year old.  Storm gives readers so much more.  From the moment Bran and Delilah meet, the attraction leaps off the pages.  Both Bran and Delilah have lived through and experienced more than most regardless of age and the difference in their age is only a part of their story.

Mia Storm keeps getting better with each Jail Bait tale.  Each new story becomes my latest Storm favorite.  I’m looking forward to reading more and more from Mia Storm.

Excerpt

Whatever. Archer had it good, made great tips as a wrangler at a dude ranch. His middle brother took life seriously enough and he hadn’t seen his oldest one in years. Wilder worked as a smoke jumper in Montana. Sometimes Archer wondered what would happen if he cruised to Big Sky Country and paid him a surprise visit—maybe he had multiple sister wives or was a secret war lord.

Growing up after their parents died in a freak house fire, they all slipped into roles. Wilder withdrew, brooding and angry, Sawyer became Mr. Nice Guy, always the teacher’s pet or offering to do chores. Archer rounded things out by going for laughs and practical jokes and causing trouble because someone had to remind everyone else not to take life so seriously. None of them were getting out alive.

He kept marching down the flights of stairs, tucking in his shirt. Grandma’s words played on a loop in his mind. “Using women like disposable silverware.”

Lord knew—those women used him right back. It was fun, didn’t mean anything.

Meaningless.

He ground his jaw so tight his teeth hurt. Casual sex on pool tables, washing machines, countertops, and lawn chairs filled his physical needs, but these random hookups were starting to make him feel more and more alone.

On the ground floor, he slammed open the stairwell door. There were two corridors ahead. He turned left for no reason other than that’s the hand he favored. Seemed like he chose wisely because a side entrance gave him a quick exit. He walked out, wincing at the morning sun even as he gulped fresh air, fresh for the Vegas Strip, but a far cry from the Eastern Sierras’s clean mountain breeze. His heart stirred. He’d have some breakfast and hit the road. As much as he liked leaving Brightwater, he always missed home.

Archer reached to adjust his hat and grabbed a handful of wet hair instead. Twelve stories above, a stripping magician had found herself a mighty fine Stetson.

He stepped onto the street, jumping back on the curb when a city bus turned, the side plastered with a shoe ad sporting the slogan, “Can You Run Forever?”

Hell, he’d been running from accountability, stability, and boring routines his whole life.

Another thought crept in and sank its roots deep. Was he really running from those things, or was he letting his fears of commitment and responsibility run him instead?

Right Wrong Guy is the second in Lia Riley’s Brightwater series.  After reading Last First Kiss, I couldn’t wait for Archer’s story. The runaway bride almost always makes for a fun read.  Riley doesn’t disappoint.  Right Wrong Guy is a cute, fun romance that I didn’t want to see end.

I love reading Lia Riley!  Her characters will keep you reading and wanting more.  I’m looking forward to the next Brightwater book, Wilder’s story.

Lia Riley writes offbeat New Adult and Contemporary Adult romance.  After studying at the University of Montana-Missoula, she scoured the world armed only with a backpack, overconfidence and a terrible sense of direction.  She counts shooting vodka with a Ukranian mechanic in Antarctica, sipping yerba
mate with gauchos in Chile and swilling XXXX with stationhands in Outback Australia among her accomplishments.
A British literature fanatic at heart, Lia considers Mr. Darcy and Edward Rochester as her fictional boyfriends. Her very patient husband doesn’t mind.  Much. When not torturing heroes (because c’mon, who doesn’t love a good tortured hero?), Lia herds unruly chickens, camps, beach combs, daydreams about future books, wades through a mile-high TBR pile and schemes yet another trip.  Right now, Icelandic hot springs and Scottish castles sound mighty fine.

Blog Tour – PLAY NICE by L.P. Maxa

BLURB:
Rock a stadium. Bang a chick. Repeat. As lead singer of The Devil’s Share, Dash Conner could get anything or anyone he wanted—until he met Lexi Grant.

SYNOPSIS:

MONEY.  FAME. WHISKEY. SEX.

For Dash Conner, lead singer of The Devil’s Share, everything he wanted was his for the asking. Whiskey. Drugs. Money. Sex. But not Lexi Grant. For the first time since he picked up a guitar, a girl was actually demanding he woo her. For a chance with her, Dash would do that and more.

Lexi Grant was no groupie. Just because the biggest rock star in the world smiled at her didn’t mean she had to fall into bed with him—but it was going to be awfully hard to resist that impish smile and those tatted abs. Surely one night of fun wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Unless that night ends with a broken condom.

For Lexi and Dash, that’s just the beginning. Add an overly affectionate pit bull, a missing guitarist, a house full of sorority girls, a junkie ex-bandmate and an extreme aversion to Jäger, and it’s either a recipe for disaster or true love.

Excerpt:
Amy elbowed me in the ribs, “Uh, Lex? Dash is staring at you.”
In order to keep myself from ogling him, I’d taken up counting the number of topless women in the crowd. FYI: I got to twenty without even having to search that hard. I looked back in Dash’s direction. Yep, he was staring. I smiled. I couldn’t help it. He smiled back. His smile was one of those panty-dropping megawatt smiles—the kind that makes you feel like you are the only person in the world that could elicit that particular smile, even though you know logically many a girl have been lured in with it.
Dash kept his eyes on mine, but spoke into his microphone.  “Uh, guys? There is a sexy brunette standing over here to my right. Does she belong to one of y’all? Please tell me she doesn’t.” He winked at me again. Amy had a death grip on my arm.
Luke stood up and peered over his drums trying to see into the shadows to where we were standing. “Is she standing next to a blonde chick with big blue eyes that’s drooling even though she’s clearly wearing a wedding ring?” The crowd laughed and so did Amy.
Dash chuckled, “As a matter of fact, yes she is.”
Luke nodded and sat back down. “That’s my friend Lexi.”
Dash’s smile grew. “Well isn’t that just the best thing I’ve heard all night. So, Lexi…are you enjoying the show?”
I couldn’t help but laugh at this situation. A rock god was flirting with me over the sound system in a sold-out stadium. I nodded my head yes.
“Good. Can I get you anything? This is officially our first date by the way.”
I bit down on my lip, contemplating how to play this. I could laugh him off and say no…or…I could have the time of my life with a rock star. I tipped my hand back towards my mouth, indicating I wanted a drink.
“Could someone please get my girl a drink?” Dash turned back towards the crowd. “Sorry about that folks but I’ve been staring at her since the show started.” He led into the next song; the crowd sang every word right along with him.
Some guy walked over and handed each of us a beer. Amy turned to me. “Holy shit, Lex. You have to do him. You have to. On behalf of every married woman out there, you have to sleep with Dash Conner.”
“On behalf of every married woman, Ams? Or on behalf of you?” I took a long pull of my beer. Amy married her college sweetheart and even though she was in fact drooling, they were deliriously happy together.
“Come on, Lexi. One night with a sexy rock god. Who turns that down?”
“I do. I’m too old for one night stands, rock god or not.”

L.P. Maxa’s Play Nice is the first in her The Devil’s Share series.  I loved the instant attraction between Dash and Lexi.  Their chemistry was hot.  But it really is the cast of characters that made Play Nice such a fun read.  I loved the guys and know that I was smiling more than once while enjoying their banter.
I’m not sure what I expected but I thoroughly enjoyed being along for the ride on this rock tour.  I cannot wait to read more in this series.  I wonder who’s book is next…

Grant Osprey just had the hottest sex of his life. Sure, they were both in costume, and yes, it was anonymous, but he never expected her to bolt in the middle of the night without so much as a good bye, let alone exchanging numbers. Or names. All he’s left with are her panties and some seriously X-rated
memories…until he meets his business partner’s little sister.
Only Chloe Talley isn’t the bold, sexy vixen he remembers. And she wants nothing to do with him.
Cosplay is Chloe’s only chance to leave her boring, socially awkward world behind. To forget that she’s failing at life and can’t be with anyone, let alone a single-father like Grant. But the raw hunger between them is undeniable. With him, she can be a misbehaving maid. A sexy call girl for hire. Each scene
pushes Chloe beyond her strict boundaries, until Grant demands the one character she can’t play.
Herself.

This could crash and burn in epic failure. Grant was a thirty-two-year-old man and this was probably a horrible idea. But he couldn’t get Chloe’s green eyes out of his head, the way she kissed him, the way she moved under his palms. And, fuck, the way she tasted… So, he took a deep breath and went for it, knowing this could completely end in Ethan ripping out his heart like in that Indiana Jones movie.

Grant tipped up his lips and narrowed his eyes, adopting the air of a domineering businessman. “I thought I told you that I wanted the entire house finished by the time I got back. I’m not paying you to dance around the kitchen.”

Her chest rose and fell with deep breaths, and Grant waited, on fucking pins and needles to see if she’d play along.

The only sound was the refrigerator kicking on, and he was about to laugh, and tell her he was joking, when her voice, small but gaining power, said, “But, sir, you’re home early.”

That sir went right to his cock.

He took a step toward her, smiling when she backed up into the counter behind her. “I’m only a half an hour early, and you have a lot more than half an hour of work to do. What’s your excuse?”

Her lips parted. “I—”

He stepped into her space, plucking her iPod from the waistband of her pants, setting it on the counter along with her earbuds. Her eyes fluttered closed.

“Yes?” he questioned, hands on either side of her, pinning her in.

She opened her eyes, and he stared into the swirling green pool of her irises. She was in the role now; he could feel it. “I’m sorry but I took a nap in your bed.”

Jesus, his cock twitched and he shifted, so the front of his jeans brushed her thigh. “You napped in my bed?”

She bit her lip and nodded. “I know, I w-was bad.”

God, he was going to come in his pants. He ran a hand along the outside of her thigh, teasing the skin under the hem of her shorts. “Is that all you did? Sleep?”

She shook her head.

“No? What did you do in my bed?”

“I-I touched myself.”

Her whisper was a lick across his balls. With a grip on her biceps, he spun her around, so she faced the counter. She gripped it with a cry, but didn’t struggle. Instead, she threw her head back and pushed out her ass.

He took the invitation for what it was. He lowered her shorts along with her panties, hooking the fabric under the cheeks of her ass.

He smoothed a hand over it, and reveled in the small moan she made in the back of her throat. “You know I need to punish you, right?”

She nodded, her hair bobbing.

“I’ll go easy on you if you’re truthful with me.”

“Okay, sir.”

He squeezed one cheek, then let it go, watching as the blood rushed back to the white areas made by his fingers. “What did you think about when you touched yourself?”

The hesitation was for effect, he knew it. What a little actress she was. She looked at him over her shoulder, smiling coyly and blinking under her lashes. “You, sir. I thought about you and your huge cock.”

I’m soaring.

After years of hard work and determination, I am exactly where I want to be in life. As the top ranked Freestyle Motocross rider in the world, I have more money than I could ever dream of spending and gorgeous women throwing themselves at me in every city I land. I have everything I could ever want.

Everything except her.

While in Breckenridge for my best friend’s wedding, I was introduced to Dakota Shavell, a friend of the bride-to-be, and from the moment our blue gazes met, sparks flew.

What I initially intended to be a single steamy night together turned into a scorching two week road trip to New Orleans with a sassy-mouthed blonde. Being between her legs gave me a bigger adrenaline rush than I’d ever gotten from flying through the air while straddling a bike.

It was supposed to just be fun, a good time. I planned to walk away unchanged.

But it was more. Feelings I never intended to have got involved, and I’ll never be the same.

Yet, I still walked away.

Except now I’m injured and my outlook has changed. Priorities have become clear.

And I’m going back to reclaim her…to show her that together we can make the fire between us burst into flames.

***Though Flame is the second book in the Fire on the Mountain Series, it is an interconnected stand alone novel***

excerpt

Slipping through the crowd, I luck out and find a bar in a dimly lit corner with no wait. I don’t have any money to tip the guy, seeing as though I was just standing in a wedding and my purse is upstairs in the hotel room I’m sharing with Meghan. I hope he recognizes and understands what the dress means as I make a mental note to escape and grab a twenty a little later.

“Good evening, madam. What can I get for you to drink? Wine, champagne, or perhaps something stronger?” The bartender greets me with a charming smile, his wandering gaze dropping down to my cleavage before returning to mine.

“The lady will have a glass of your finest Scotch whisky; Macallan’s if you have it. Two ice cubes. A water for me.” Before I get a chance to respond, a familiar, deep male voice answers for me, seconds before the heat from him penetrates my dress. He’s right behind me, not quite touching, but if I rocked back on my heels, we’d be pressed tight.

The bartender glances up at him over my shoulder, then back down at me, cocking his head to ask my approval. I roll my eyes at the ego of the one behind me, but the bartender only chuckles and pours me the glass, knowing I’m going to accept it. Pretentious asshole!

“You don’t strike me as a girl who fucks around with that frou-frou shit,” he rasps against the back of my neck, blanketing the exposed skin in goose bumps. He snickers at my physical reaction to his closeness, and I hate my traitorous body for a minute. Stupid nervous system.

I inhale a deep breath, which is supposed to clear my head before I speak, but instead, it’s saturated with him. And God, him smells spectacular. The perfect mixture of new rain and leather. Clean, yet rugged. Soft, but rough. All fucking man.

Shit, I’m in trouble.

“Thanks for buying me a drink at an open bar. I love a guy who goes the extra mile, sparing no expense,” I test him, curious to how this conversation is going to go.

Closing the small gap between us, he inches forward until the vibration of his low laughter resonates inside my ribcage. I grab on to the bar top, steadying my wobbly legs. The sexual portion of my brain fires into high gear as my near future, without clothes and filled with a best man, seems inevitable.

“Still got the attitude, Sunshine,” he growls, his lips faintly brushing against the shell of my ear with each word. Wrapping his arm around the front of me, he splays his gigantic hand across my lower midsection, his thumb resting over my belly button and his pinky dangerously close to my sweet spot. He presses against me in a way that makes my back bow and my ass pop against his zipper. “I fuckin’ dig that shit.”

My inner thighs clench together as the flood of desire surges to my pussy like hot fucking lava. He’s setting me on fire, and we haven’t even kissed. I’m not sure how to feel about my body’s overpowering response to him, but in typical Dakota-style, I’m not stopping it until I ride out the pleasure wave. This could be mind-blowing. Life-changing, perhaps.

“Yeah, Hulk, I know,” I manage to say, holding my gaze forward toward the bartender, who’s doing a poor job of hiding that he’s watching the exchange between me and Levi. “You told me during the ceremony.”

“I didn’t say a word during the ceremony,” he argues, stepping away from me as he drops money in the tip jar and grabs our drinks. I follow him over to one of the patio tables and sit across from him.

After a long, steady drink of the chilled drink, I rest back in the chair and stare directly into his animated eyes, keeping my face neutral as I church my fingers in my lap. “You did. You told me you wanted to see what I was wearing under this dress, and when I laughed at your ridiculous too-small tux, you threatened to punish me.”

He bends forward toward me, takes a long pull from the bottle of water, and lowers his voice. “And you told me you weren’t afraid of me, so why are you pulling back now?”

I’m unable to back down from a challenge, never have been, ever since I can remember as a kid with my sisters. They could dare me to do anything and I would. I love the thrill. The adrenaline. It’s almost as good as an orgasm.

His eyes twinkle with this knowledge as I lean forward to meet him nose-to-nose, less than an inch between our mouths. “You’re the one who should be scared, James Levi,” I whisper, a smirk creeping up my face. “I can be very addicting.”

Then, I tilt forward just enough to feather my lips across his before standing up with my drink. “Thanks for the drink, Hulk.” I wink, lifting the glass in the air. “I’ll see you inside.”

Where have I been?  I’m not sure how I’ve been missing out on Erin Noelle but I won’t be any longer.  I really enjoyed Flame and can’t wait to go back and read the first in Noelle’s Fire on the Mountain series, Spark.  Levi and Dakota make for fun reading with engaging banter and dialogue, hot chemistry and the perfect mix of emotions.  I couldn’t put this book down even when I reached the end.  Noelle gives just enough of a tease with other characters that I’m very much looking forward to the next in the series.  RatingSystem-4

Excerpt

Annie hadn’t thought she’d ever be warm again, but she was sweating when a coughing fit awakened her sometime around two in the morning. Her ribs felt as if they’d been crushed, her head pounded, and her throat was raw. She also had to pee, another setback in a house with no water. When the coughing finally eased, she struggled out from under the blankets. Wrapped in the scarlet cloak, she turned on the flashlight and, grabbing the wall to support herself, made her way to the bathroom.

She kept the flashlight pointed down so she couldn’t see her reflection in the mirror that hung over the old-fashioned sink. She knew what she’d see. A long, pale face shadowed by illness; a sharply pointed chin; big, hazel eyes; and a runaway mane of light brown hair that kinked and curled wherever it wanted. She had a face children liked, but that most men found quirky instead of seductive. Her hair and face came from her unknown father¾“A married man. He wanted nothing to do with you. Dead now, thank God. Her shape came from Mariah: tall, thin, with knobby wrists and elbows, big feet, and long-fingered hands.

“To be a successful actress, you need to be either exceptionally beautiful or exceptionally talented,” Mariah had said. “You’re pretty enough, Antoinette, and you’re a talented mimic, but we have to be realistic…”

Your mother wasn’t exactly your cheerleader. Dilly stated the obvious.

I’ll be your cheerleader, Peter proclaimed. I’ll take care of you and love you forever.

Peter’s heroic proclamations usually made Annie smile, but tonight she could think only of the emotional chasm between the men she’d chosen to give her heart to and the fictional heroes she loved.  And the other chasm¾the one between the life she’d imagined for herself and the one she was living.

Despite Mariah’s objections, Annie had gotten her degree in theater arts and spent the next ten years plodding to auditions. She’d done showcases, community theater, and even landed a few character roles in off-off Broadway plays. Too few. Over the past summer, she’d finally faced the truth that Mariah was right. Annie was a better ventriloquist than she’d ever be an actress. Which left her absolutely nowhere.

I was thrilled to get so much mystery and suspense in this SEP read.  I’ve been a longtime fan of all things Susan Elizabeth Phillips and was looking forward to Heroes Are My Weakness.  Annie is a wonderfully quirky character with Theo being one of the mysteries you wanted to solve.  The build up in their chemistry works and the twists kept me reading.

SEP blends humor and suspense in a reminiscent gothic feel in her Heroes Are My Weakness.  While not a typical SEP read, Annie and Theo’s story is a new favorite.

“We need to talk.” With a quick movement Hudson punched a card into the control panel and the elevator jerked to a halt.

Allie’s eyes darted to the panel and her spine straightened. “We talked at the gallery.”

“That wasn’t a conversation.” More like verbal sparring.

“I said all I needed to say.” She appeared to be completely composed, but Hudson could see the rise and fall of her chest, the white-knuckle grip on her bag.

“You may have unloaded, but hell if I have. And no matter what it takes you’re going to hear me out. Even if it means keeping this godforsaken elevator stopped all fucking day.” He tried to remind himself that anger would get him nowhere. Calm, levelheaded domination was the key to pressing the advantage, except he was way past that. With her he felt like he was gripping sand and every grain was slipping through his fingers.

“Stop trying to control me, Hudson.” Allie turned and lifted her chin. The anger was gone and in its place was a mask of complete indifference. Goddamn, it shredded him. He’d take anger over apathy any day.

He took a deep breath. She was going to ride this facade like the Macy’s Day Parade, marching through their little exchange as if they were nothing more than business partners forced into a resentful coexistence. He had to get her to drop her guard, to let him in. And if pissing her off was what it took to incite a reaction, then so be it.

“It’s never been that way between us and you know it, Alessandra.” Hudson flashed a slight smirk as he prepared to drop the H-bomb. “Well, except for the bedroom. And if memory serves, you enjoyed it.”

He braced himself, expecting a slap to light his face on fire, but instead her eyes dilated and fixated on his mouth. Her lips parted and her breath quickened. He had her. No matter how unaffected she pretended to be, she couldn’t help but respond to him. And the longer they stood mere inches apart, the more desire took over and became a downright menace.

Never one to miss an opportunity, Hudson reassessed on the fly. He stepped closer and his voice dropped to a low, seductive murmur. “Is that what it will take for you to hear me out?” He swept a hand across her collarbone and up the side of her neck. “You, tied to my bed?”

Release Me is the second in the Chasing Fire trilogy and picks right up where Remind Me left us.  I couldn’t wait for more of sexy Hudson.  Release Me is the perfect second book in a trilogy.  Walker and Rogers hooked me with Remind Me, the heiress and bad boy all grown up.  With this second book, we feel the tension and chemistry that is undeniable.  I love Allie and Hudson together.  With both of them strong characters, I couldn’t help wanting to know how they were going to finally get together.
With some sexy scenes and unforgettable characters, the final book in the trilogy can’t get here soon enough.  I cannot wait to read the conclusion in Reclaim Me.

Chaos
Mayhem #3

By: Jamie Shaw

Releasing July 21, 2015

Avon Impulse

Blurb

From the moment she saw Shawn Scarlett perform at a school talent show, Kit Larson has loved two things: the guitar, and the gorgeous, green-eyed boy who inspired her to play. But one careless night in high school shatters her hope of ever being more than a notch on his bedpost.

Six years, two bands, and one mostly-mended heart later, Kit’s about to make her rock star dreams a reality as the new guitarist for Shawn’s band, The Last Ones to Know. He may not remember their reckless night together, but Kit has never forgotten… and she’s determined to make him eat his heart out.

The release of their new album means a month cooped up on a tour bus, sleeping inches away from the ridiculously sexy musician she’s never quite gotten over. And as Kit gets to know the real Shawn—not Shawn Scarlett, the rock god, the player—their attraction becomes too hot to resist. But the past is paved with secrets, and when they finally surface, Kit could lose everything: the band, the music, her dreams… and Shawn.

Excerpt

On our walk through a short hallway, the blonde apologizes for the rude welcome and tells me her name is Rowan, and then we turn into the cavernous space that is Mayhem. A massive bar lines one wall, a stage lines the other, and in the middle of the room sits a row of card tables and six foldout chairs—like some kind of makeshift setup for the judges of American Idol.

I cross the club to lean my guitar against the stage and, in an attempt to convince myself Shawn isn’t about to magically appear at any freaking moment, I say, “So it’s just going to be us?”

“No—” Dee starts, but she’s barely gotten the word out before a back door opens and bright afternoon sunlight spills onto the floor, paving the way for all four remaining members of The Last Ones to Know.

Joel Gibbon enters first, his blond hair giving him away. In high school, it was a gelled mess that stood up all over the place; now it’s a disciplined mohawk that cuts a line down the center of his head. He’s followed by Mike Madden, who looks the same and yet somehow more manly, like he grew into himself. Adam Everest walks in next, looking even hotter than he did six years ago. His hair is still long and untamed, his jeans still look like they got into a fight with a paper shredder and lost, and his wrists are still adorned with stacks of mismatched bracelets. The blonde girl walks to meet him, and I feel sorry for the way she’s going to feel when Adam decides to stop calling.

And then, I get my first glimpse of Shawn Scarlett just before the door closes behind him. My eyes fight to adjust back to the dim lighting, and when it does, he’s all I can see. He has that same dark hair, that same scruffy jaw, that same look about him that makes it hard for me to breathe.

“Guys, this is Kit,” Dee says while Shawn continues stealing the breath from my lungs. “She’s up next.”

They all look me over as they gather close, with only Adam and Joel managing to contain their ogling. When I see the way Shawn is raking his eyes over me, a satisfied smile sneaks onto my face. After six years of not being able to forget him, this single moment is making it all worthwhile. Whether he remembers me or not, he’s staring at me like I’m the hottest chick he’s ever seen.

These pants were so worth it.

“We thought you were a dude,” Joel says, wrapping his arm around Dee’s shoulder and giving me an excuse to play it cool.

“Yeah,” I say, withdrawing my gaze from Shawn even though I can feel his green eyes still tracing over the curves of my exposed skin. “I gathered that when your girlfriend tried to close the door in my face.”

“Have we met before?” Shawn asks, and a laugh almost bubbles out of me. Have we met? Yeah, I guess you could call it that.

He’s staring at me with a slight squint to his enchanted forest eyes, but I refuse to let them charm me. Instead, I meet them with a smirk and say, “We went to the same school.”

“What year were you?”

“Three under you.”

“Didn’t you used to come to our shows?” Mike asks, but I stare at Shawn for a moment longer, waiting to see if my smile, my eyes, or my voice jog his memory. The rejected teenage girl in me wants to claw his face off for forgetting me, but rationally, I know he’s given me the upper hand in a game I wasn’t aware I’d be playing. One I’m making up the rules for as I go along.

When Shawn stares and stares and still can’t place me, I turn to Mike and answer, “Sometimes.”

I’m wondering where I’ve been, I cannot believe I’ve been missing out on Jamie Shaw and her Mayhem series.  I may be coming into the series late with the third book but I’m thrilled to have a new must read series.

I loved the timeline in Chaos, without reading the first two books in the series, I didn’t have a sense of missing anything.  I am a sucker for a second chance romance so I was turning the pages to see what would happen between Kit and Shawn.

I will be reading Mayhem and Riot as soon as I can get them.  I’m looking forward to catching up on this rocking series.  RatingSystem-4
