Synopsis: Release day 10/6

Everything done in darkness, will eventually be brought into the light.

I ran, but all it did was keep me one step ahead of my past. I tried to start over; new name, new identity. But you can’t change your soul.

A fresh start at college was just what I needed. For a while, it worked. I was the party girl, the one that seemed confident, but it was a lie.

When guys kissed me–I felt only pain.

When they touched me–Nothing but fear.

Deep inside, every girl wants to be the beauty in the story, to find someone that will see you as their world.

But the truth? I was the beast. And as much as I wanted redemption, I wasn’t fool enough to think I’d ever get it.

Until he walked into my life.

I wasn’t prepared to fall for someone. My scars were too deep, the wounds too raw. But he offered me peace, he offered me security. I should have known it was just another lie–I should have known that falling in love with my professor was a bad idea.

But I was powerless to stop myself from falling.

And he was powerless to catch me.

Because the darkness finally caught up to me, and as fate would have it, a cruel twist almost bled me dry. But I’m stronger than I knew. I’m stronger than you think.

You think you know my story, but you don’t….after all everyone has Shame in their lives– and I’m no longer afraid to show you mine.

Excerpt

I closed my eyes and leaned my forehead against hers. A shaky breath escaped her lips. “I’m going to kiss you now.”

“Are you trying to prepare me or ask permission?” she whispered, her voice beckoning me like a siren’s call.

“Both.” My lips hovered near hers. “I figure it’s only fair.”

“Fair?” She pulled back slightly. “How so?”

“Ten thousand.” I angled my head and watched the pulse jump on her neck. “That’s how many nerve endings, on average, are in your lips. Consequently, when your body anticipates pleasure, the build-up is the best part. Imagine, those ten thousand nerves are swelling, allowing blood to surge through them in anticipation of… what?” I swept my tongue across her lower lip and whispered, “Of being touched. I ask permission, not because I’m being a gentleman. It’s actually the complete opposite. I ask permission so your brain anticipates the pleasure before I’ve ever even touched you.”

I tasted her lower lip again and abruptly dipped my tongue into her mouth. Then just as quickly retreated. “The human body is an instrument. Know how to master it… and well…” I let my voice drop as I moved my hands slowly to her shoulders and tugged her body flush against mine. Our mouths met softly at first. I deepened the kiss, memorizing her taste, knowing I wouldn’t experience a kiss like this again in my lifetime. The way her scent, her soft moans destroyed my body, wrecked me from the deepest part of me, was nothing short of life-altering.

And I’d like to think I’d kissed a lot of women.

I’d studied the psychology of sexuality.

I was an expert in pleasure.

But she was schooling me, absolutely wreaking havoc on every logical thought as her soft whimper cascaded over me. Blood surged through my body as it tightened with awareness at her proximity.

She pulled back, her lips swollen. “That was… not a good enough warning.”

Laughing softly, I cupped the back of her head and gently drew it toward mine and kissed her again, angling my lips differently, searching her, consuming her, drawing pleasure from her lips as if it was my life goal to discover every single secret she owned.

Her arms wrapped around my neck. She was shy; she didn’t push against me, didn’t wrap her legs around me or moan into my mouth like I was having sex with her rather than kissing her.

My hands moved down her corset to her hips, and I lifted her into the air and walked her backward toward the brick wall. The whole time, our masks collided. In frustration, I ripped hers off, then mine. The shadows of moonlight hid our faces as I kissed her harder, losing myself in her.

Her nails dug at the back of my neck as she jerked my head harder. Groaning, I let her fall to the ground as I placed my hands on the brick wall to keep myself from ripping the dress from her body.

Shouting started from the ballroom.

“Ten, nine…!”

“Eight,” I whispered against her mouth. “Seven.”

“Six.” She sighed, her breathing labored as her tongue found mine again. “Five.”

“Four, three.” I pulled back and trailed kisses down her neck.

“Two.”

We broke apart, both breathing heavy. “One.”

People burst out onto the balcony as the fireworks started, lighting up the sky. And our faces.

And the only thing I could say as she gasped in horror was “Oh, shit.”

My Review

Rachel Van Dyken continues to deliver books that immediately pull the reader in without letting them go before the last page is read.  I was excited to see that Shame was giving us Lisa’s story, I’d been hoping to see what was developing for her.  I loved that Wes and Gabe play important roles in Lisa’s story.

Shame is a satisfying ending to the Ruin series.  There are twists, turns, and secrets with well-developed, complex characters that keep the reader invested in Lisa and Tristan’s story.

My Review
After Upside Down, I couldn’t wait for Talia and Bran’s story to continue.  Sideswiped picks right up where their story leaves off.  I loved that in Talia and Bran we get characters that are spot on in delivering the emotions and struggles of their age.  The alternating points of view really work in pulling you into their story.
I’m looking forward to seeing where Inside Out takes their story.  C’mon December!

INDECENT PROPOSAL by Molly O’Keefe

 September 2014

Boys of Bishop, book #4

IndecentProposal

BOOK SUMMARY:

Perfect for readers of Susan Mallery and Rachel Gibson, Molly O’Keefe’s gritty and sensual tale of passion and politics features the brother of the heroine from the author’s beloved novel, Never Been Kissed. He’s a driven man who refuses to be distracted—until he meets a beautiful bartender who just may change his life.

With his chiseled jaw and his thick blond hair, Harrison Montgomery was born to lead. Four generations of Montgomery men have served the state of Georgia and now he’s next in line. Harrison, though, is driven to right wrongs: namely to clean up the political mess left by his father’s greed and corruption. But Harrison must first win his congressional bid, and nothing can get in his way—not even an angel who served him whiskey and gave him a shoulder to lean on and a body to love for a night. Problem is, she’s pregnant. Scandal is brewing and there is only one solution: marriage.

Damage control? Ryan Kaminski can’t believe that a cold, calculating political animal now inhabits the body of the emotionally vulnerable stranger who’d given her the most unforgettable night of her life. Really, she doesn’t want anything from Harrison, except to be left alone to have her baby in peace. But Ryan is broke, jobless, and essentially blackmailed by Harrison’s desperate family to accept this crazy marriage deal. For two years, she will have to act the role of caring, supportive wife. But what is Ryan supposed to do when she realizes that, deep in her heart, she’s falling in love.

My Review

I love the Boys of Bishop series and couldn’t wait to read Indecent Proposal.  Sex, politics, family and love…the makings of a story to remember.  At first I just wasn’t sure if I was going to like the Harrison and Ryan match.  It wasn’t very long before I was convinced it couldn’t be any other way.   Both are strong characters but we get that glimpse of vulnerability that is irresistible.

Molly O’Keefe continues to deliver emotion-packed contemporaries that are filled with realistic characters that stay with you.  If you haven’t picked up the Boys of Bishop, you’re missing out on strong characters that pull you into their lives and have you remembering them long after the last page.

Great getaway with THE RESOLUTION OF CALLIE & KAYDEN by Jessica Sorensen

The Resolution of Callie and Kayden

Available on Amazon, iTunes, B&N, and Smashwords

Synopsis

Things are going good for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.

Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and they’re left facing tough choices. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life.

Excerpt

“She’s just being nice,” Kayden says gazing down at me. His hair is ruffled and his jawline is scruffy and he looks so happy. “And it’s nice… that she wants to be so nice… it could be worse than an overnice mother.”

“Yeah, I know.” I sigh, knowing he’s right, that it could be worse, that I could have a mother like his mother. “I just wish she’d be just a little bit less embarrassing.” I raise my hand and make a pinching gesture with my fingers. “Maybe just a teeny tiny bit.”

“Yeah, I doubt that’s ever going to happen.” Kayden slips his shirt off and chucks it aside. His jeans ride low on his hips, giving me a view of his abs and chest that is crisscrossed with scars. “I did find it funny when she kept cracking jokes all through dinner about how she thinks we’re going to end up getting married.” He kneels down on the mattress, nudging my knees open with his knees until I spread open my legs for him.

“Oh God.” Shaking my head, I cover my face with my hands. “I’m glad you find it funny because I’m sure most guys would be running for their lives.”

The mattresses moves as he leans over me and puts a hand on each side of my head. I crack my fingers apart and look at him. He’s been so much happier since he put the past behind him. He seems to breathe freer, smile more, and it’s probably the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen. “Well, just make sure you really want this,” I say as he moves one of my hands away from my eyes. “Because you still have time to run.”

He shakes his head, his tongue slipping out of his mouth to wet his lips. “No running here,” he whispers in a raspy voice that I know only means one thing—he wants me. “Ever.” He moves my other hand away from my face then pins my arms above my head.

A while ago, the movement would have sent my heart soaring and not in a good way. But now… well, it freaking soars like a bird high up in the sky never wanting to return to land ever. It soars because it’s free. It soars for him.

“You want me,” I tease as he leans down to kiss me.

“You’re right,” he says. “And then I want to give you your present.”

“But you already gave me my present.” I pat my pocket where the tickets to the concert are that he gave me. He said it was for a redo of a night that should have been special, but he couldn’t give it to me then, but he was ready now to give me everything I deserve—his words not mine. My mom practically fainted when he said it. And me, well I think I fell in love with Kayden even more.

“Yeah, but that one was only the first part.” He kisses me, then softly bites my bottom lip before he leans back for air. “There’s more,” he breathes against my lips, coming in for another kiss. “But you have to wait.”

“Until when?” I wonder, my heart skipping a beat as his hands wander for the button of my jeans.

“Until we’re done with this.” He gives me a wicked smile as he flicks my button undone.

My Review

I fell in love with Callie and Kayden in The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden. I was still thinking of their story days after finishing that read. Their story continued in The Redemption of Callie & Kayden. When I reached the end of that book, I immediately was wanting the final installment of their story.

With The Resolution of Callie & Kayden, we see the couple still healing from their individual pasts. While Callie is doing better, Kayden is struggling. He is having difficulty letting go of his abusive past. Callie and Kayden find closure in Resolution and are moving towards their future together.

I really liked that we see some growth in how both Callie and Kayden deal with their relationships with family. We Callie spending time with her brother. And we see Kayden’s brother acting the protective older brother. This final installment had me glued to the pages, needing to know that Callie and Kayden were going to make it to their happy ever after.

My Review

I enjoyed this continuation of Eden and Grey’s story.  Eden makes the move to Texas, joining Grey at the Palm Palace.  Long distance relationships are hard but starting a life together can be difficult too.  From the start with Eden’s cross country drive, I was turning the pages to get to her reunion with Grey and couldn’t stop reading until the very last page.

T. A. Foster gives us a realistic story that is very relatable with likable characters.  We see Eden and Grey’s relationship deepening as both characters grow and develop.   I’m hoping to read about a couple of secondary characters in a future story.

I loved this journey that is FROM THE INSIDE OUT! I got hooked into Jules Weston’s story with SCORNED and continued through JEALOUSY.  I couldn’t wait to read DYLAN for more of his story.

This second chance love story with a triangle kept me turning the pages until Jules’s choice was revealed.  Until I read Dylan, I might have been a little undecided on my choice but not after.  Team Dylan always!

SL Scott does a fantastic job with giving us characters that we want to know and twists to keep us reading. I’ll definitely pick up another book to read and get lost in.

THE GENIUS

Sophie WARD is a scientist with the looks of a geek and the fantasies of a hot-blooded siren. She’s wanted security expert Chris Riley from the moment he first came to work at the Blackwood Research Institute that houses her lab. And the more she’s gotten to know the gorgeous bad boy, the more she’s fallen into lust with him. But despite the encouragement of her best friend, Sophie has never had the guts to ask him out. Until the day a fateful fortune cookie sets the ball rolling….

THE HUNK

Chris RILEY is a man who knows what he wants…and it’s Sophie Ward. But circumstances have kept them apart for too long, and now his need for the adorable scientist is at the breaking point. She’s so shy, there’s no telling how she might react to the things he wants from her. Hell, she could even turn him in for sexual harassment. But none of that is enough to keep Chris from hungering for Sophie, and his patience is running thin….

THE MOMENT

When a mishap finally brings their mutual attraction out into the open, the scorching intensity of their desire is enough to burn them to ash. But will they be able to make something of the wreckage when Chris’s past rears its ugly head? Or will they lose the best thing they’ve ever found?

My Review

Making His Move made for a great weekend escape to San Diego.  My time in San Diego  started off with lunch in a Chinese restaurant located downtown where Sophie Ward and her bestie, Natalie, are having lunch.  Sophie gets just a little bit of a nudge from Natalie and a fortune cookie to finally ask out Chris Riley, her office crush.

Chris Riley…so worth staying downtown after lunch…getting to meet the security expert.  It isn’t too long in the afternoon before Chris has decided he is no longer fighting his attraction to Sophie.  The bad boy really knows how to raise those temperatures with his dirty talking.

No visit to San Diego would be complete without a mention of the beach.  We get our ocean views when Chris takes Sophie back to his condo.  The heat leaps off the pages when Chris finally has Sophie where he wants her.  Too bad I couldn’t prop those windows open and feel that ocean breeze…Chris and Sophie deliver some hot, sexy scenes.

I loved my quick trip to San Diego.  Making His Move is a quick, fast-paced read that delivers plenty of heat.  The banter between besties had me smiling and thinking of my own bff.  Sophie and Chris are likable characters that had me rooting for them getting together and working through a surprise or two.  I’m always looking forward to the next Rhyannon Byrd book and Nat’s story can’t get here soon enough.

My Review

We venture to Alaska with The Edge of You.  Theresa DaLayne does a wonderful job  with the setting and takes us on a memorable trip.

Maya is in Alaska trying to keep her family together after a devastating tragedy.  Jake is in Alaska to earn money for his mother’s surgery.  Neither is looking for a relationship.  There’s no denying their attraction when they meet.

I loved how Maya and Jake become stronger as they are tested with what life deals them.  Theresa DaLayne gives us relatable characters that we get to see develop and grow as they encounter real life issues.  I’m looking forward to reading another Theresa DaLayne story.

TheresaAUTHOR BIO
Theresa DaLayne is a north-south-east-western kind of girl with a quirky personality to match her nomad life. Born in California, she migrated to three different cities in Washington State, a tiny island in Alaska, North Carolina, and finally to the suburbs of Ohio where she currently lives with her husband, three kids, vegetarian cat, and her ungrateful fish.

Always on the lookout for a new story, Theresa is a shameless eavesdropper and will take anyone who provides inspiration and mold them into a character without a second thought. She enjoys writing both paranormal and contemporary stories, considering her mind wanders between worlds of fantasy while she’s forced to live in the real world, very much against her will.

Book Blurb:

The wait is over. They fell in love in Melt Into You, but that was only the beginning. Now New York Times bestselling author Roni Loren dials up the passion as three lovers reinvent the meaning of togetherness and find out if love is truly enough…

Two dominant men, one beautiful woman. Jace Austin knows he doesn’t have what you’d call a conventional relationship with Evan and Andre, but it works. Boy, does it work—until Evan starts acting strangely and Andre’s ex-fiancée pops back into his life, unbalancing a perfectly happy threesome. Jace is forced to face the unthinkable: that the two people he cares most about in this world are in danger of slipping away from him.

So Jace plans a surprise getaway to a secluded mountain cabin for the three of them. And he knows exactly what he needs to do: give both his lovers a fantasy week they’ll never forget. And the possibilities for pleasure are endless. But when they get snowed in and the heat between them reaches a fever pitch, secrets come out. And Evan has one that could change all their lives forever.

Excerpt:

“Martine?” Andre glanced down the hallway and headed into the kitchen, trying to keep his annoyance from bleeding into his voice. “How did you get this number?”

“Don’t be mad, but I called your mom. My mother still had her number. Apparently, they still go to the flea market together sometimes on the weekend.”

“I see.” Great, now his mom would be calling him about that nice Velasquez girl. Because although his parents knew about his unconventional relationship with Evan and Jace, they weren’t exactly enthusiastic fans. His mother wanted big church weddings and piles of grandkids from her children, not a son who brought home a tattooed gringo and the girl they shared. He had a feeling his mom hadn’t completely gone off on him yet because she thought he was going through a phase.

“So I know I’m supposed to wait for you to call me or whatever, but I have the afternoon off today and I thought maybe we could grab that lunch.”

“Marti—”

“I know it’s last minute, but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about seeing you the other night, and I just want to talk and catch up. Things haven’t been—well, they haven’t been so great for me lately, and it’d be nice to spend some time with an old friend from back home.”

The request was delivered with that trademark sweetness of hers that wedged guilt right through him. He knew this was more than an I-want-to-catch-up-with-an-old-friend thing. But he also sensed she was being honest about going through a tough time. He could hear that lonely edge to her voice. He also had no interest in being the guy to fix that for her. “I’m sorry to hear things aren’t going well, but I’m leaving town for a week in a little while. And even if I weren’t, it’s not a good idea for us to strike up that kind of friendship.”

“Don’t trust yourself with me?” she asked, her tone light and teasing but the challenge there.

He raked a hand through his hair, his patience on a short tether. “It’s not that at all. But I’m friends with people who respect my relationship and my choices, and I get the feeling that you don’t.”

He could picture her pressing her lips together on the other end. “Your mother said you have problems with commitment and that’s why you can’t decide between your boyfriend and your girlfriend. She said I should—”

Unbelievable. “This conversation is done, Martine.”

“Wait!”

He blew out a breath, silently counting to ten in his head.

“Look, I’m sorry. This is all coming out wrong. Of course, I wouldn’t try to mess up things for you if you’re happy, but I don’t see why we can’t be friends.”

“Fine. You want new friends? When I come back, you can have lunch with me . . . and Evan and Jace. You’ll have three new people to talk to.”

“You want me to—? I—”

“Is that a problem?”

“No,” she said quickly, sounding not at all confident. She was probably already picturing him open-mouth kissing Jace in public or something. “I mean, I guess that could work.”

“Great. I’ll give you a call when we get back. Until then, don’t call this number. I’m on vacation from everything and everyone.”

He tossed his phone on the counter with a sound of frustration.

“Was that the ex?”

Andre whirled around, finding Jace standing in the doorway of the kitchen. “Yeah. She tracked down my number through my mother.”

Jace smirked. “Mama Medina still trying to play matchmaker to get you away from your life of sin?”

Andre shook his head. “Something like that. My mom informed her that I have issues with commitment. I can’t even decide on a gender to love.”

Jace laughed. “Nice. Think what we have in mind will make a difference for her?”

“Doubtful unless there’s a priest involved at some point,” Andre said, picking up his phone and tucking it in his pocket. “But I’m over it. I’m too old to worry about what other people think, even if those people are in my own family.”

“At least your sister is on your side.”

Andre smiled. That’s because Cela was doing her own living in sin with her boyfriend/dom and was thankful that most of the family’s frowns were aimed Andre’s way instead of hers. Though, he didn’t doubt that Cela was also genuinely happy for him. “So is our girl all ready?”

“Yeah, the water turned off a few minutes ago.”

“Think she’s figured anything out yet?”

“Nope. I put the bags in the car so she wouldn’t see them and told her we were going to drop her off at work today.” Jace’s grin was devious, and childlike enthusiasm lit his face.

Andre walked over and threw his arm over Jace’s shoulders. “Ready to do some kidnapping?”

“Think if we tie her up and carry her out, a neighbor will report us?”

Andre snorted. “Yes. Let’s not get thrown in jail today, all right?”

“Damn. That would’ve been fun.”

“You’re a sick fucker, J.”

“And you two love me, so what does that make y’all?”

Andre led him out and toward the bedroom. “Gluttons for punishment.”

Jace glanced over at him, giving him that slow up-and-down look that could make Andre’s best intentions derail in a flash. “Lucky for us all, that’s my favorite kind of people.”

 My Review

I love Roni Loren’s Loving on the Edge series. I was excited to see that we were going to get a little more Jace, Andre and Evan. Melt Into You gives us their story and happily ever after, but what happens after the HEA? Forever Starts Tonight picks up their story with them living together and making their commitment work.

Ms Loren gives us a hot, sexy, emotion packed follow up with Forever Starts Tonight. I enjoyed getting just a bit more of Jace, Andre and Evan and I’m looking forward to the next Loving on the Edge book.

Since then, her flirting skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. Though she’ll forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Dallas with her husband and son.
