Three years ago, Brynn Dalton made a rare error in judgment and had a one-night stand with the one man she swore would never get into her designer panties. Will Thatcher was exactly the type of sexy playboy that good girls like Brynn stayed away from. And when Will moved across the country just days after their fling, Brynn vowed to put him behind her, even as the memories haunt her.

Now Will Thatcher is back, and just in time to see Brynn’s perfectly structured life begin to crumble. Her job is dull, her social life is tedious, and Brynn’s perfect cardiologist boyfriend doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to get to Tiffany & Co. More than ever, Brynn needs her childhood nemesis to keep his distance.

But Will isn’t content to be Brynn’s dirty little secret any longer. This time, he’s out to show Brynn Dalton that the imperfect man might just be the best mistake of her life.

excerpt

He locked his eyes on hers, telling her the truth for the first time in a long time. “Don’t you ever get tired of fighting, Brynny?”

He kept his tone light, but she must have read the intensity in his gaze because her blue eyes went slightly wide. “Do you?”

I don’t mind the squabbling. I just want more. But it was too soon. She still looked like a wary cat ready to call her stupid boyfriend at the first sign of her being turned on. And he knew he could turn her on. Easily. Her eyes kept moving to his lips and her pupils were dilated.

She wanted him. She’d wanted him when she he’d kissed her in the driveway last week, and when he’d rubbed against her in the kitchen this morning, and she wanted him now.

But she wouldn’t take him. Not until she’d gotten rid of Jimmy what’s-his-name. If he kissed her now, she’d hate him. Hate herself for liking it when she was supposed to be loyal to an absent boyfriend.

He allowed himself one more lingering touch of his fingers on her palm. Just enough to remind her of what it had been like with them. Enough to have her sucking in her breath and springing away from him.

I love Lauren Layne!  Well, I love her books…no, I think I must love LL.   Made for You is another winner.  Brynn and Will belong together and we get to see them finally get there.

From the very beginning, I couldn’t put Made for You down until I read the very last sentence.  I was immediately hooked and needed to know what was going to happen next.  By the end, the emotions that I felt left me feeling like I had taken a ride on a roller coaster.

Will and Brynn are the best of characters.  Layne gives us relatable characters, characters that we imagine knowing.  I love that Brynn and Will are not perfect but they are perfect for each other.

Made for You is one of the best reads of the season.  I can’t wait to see what comes next from Lauren Layne.

What could be hotter than a firefighter? Kate Meader shows how hot it can get as Beck Rivera and heiress-turned-tattoo-artist Darcy Cochrane discover that nothing ignites holiday flames like rekindling a lost love…

debbiesreview

The perfect read to enjoy as the weather turns colder.  There’s a little something for everyone with these five fun, sexy novellas.

“Searching for You” by Jennifer Probst gives us Riley and Dylan stranded in a snowstorm.  I liked that they had history and weren’t the strangers they expected to meet on their match up.

“It’s a Wonderful Tangled Christmas Carol” by Emma Chase was a fun way to catch up with Drew and Kate.  I love reading from Drew’s POV.

I loved “Saving Grace” by Kristen Proby.  I didn’t want this story to end.  I loved Grace and Bax.

“Safe in His Arms” by Melody Anne is a sweet read.  I thought Natalie and Hawk were so cute and very likable.

“Rekindle the Flame” by Kate Meader has a hot not to be missed firefighter.  I couldn’t help but pull for Beck and Darcy.

I really liked all the stories in this anthology.  I loved that some of them were stories that fit in with existing series.  I can’t wait to pick up more stories by these authors.

The latest in Marquita Valentine’s Boys of the South series, Need You Tonight, is Parker’s story.  I couldn’t wait to read this one!  The book starts with heartache and delivers a very satisfying happy ever after.

With each Boys of the South book, Valentine continues to deliver an engaging story filled with characters the reader will want to know and remember.  I loved Brooklyn and Parker, my heart hurt for both of them.  The moment they meet with their reaction and attraction to the other hooked me into their story.   I couldn’t put Need You Tonight down until I read the final sentence.

I’m looking forward to the next in the series, Take the Fall…can’t wait.

Chasing Lucky is the first in a new series by Brinda Berry, Serendipity.  I was really looking forward to reading this story and was not at all disappointed.
From the prologue to the epilogue, I was turning the pages to get every bit of Malerie and Ace’s story.  Berry makes a great match with Malerie and Ace.  She gives us leads that are both dealing with tragic pasts while developing into memorable and empathetic characters.  The mystery and suspense are fresh and kept me guessing at what was going to happen next.
I’m looking forward to reading Collin’s story in Tempting Fate.

Born and raised in the
middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve
spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets
the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and
anything is completely possible if you believe.
Although this journey
began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring
hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany… I should
write a book. And I did it!

abouthebook

“I was the little girl who loved you from afar. I was the woman who gave herself away for you and ended up losing a lot of who she was.”

“Then allow me to give back some of what I stole.”

After being dumped by her fiancé, Eleanor Carrington flees to Paris to stay with her self-medicated mother. While keeping her mom from popping pills like gummy bears, Eleanor launches a new, no-strings-attached life plan with absolutely NO falling in love whatsoever. On her part at least, because her self-esteem could do with one or two Frenchmen going un peu crazy for her.

What she doesn’t need is for her first Grand Amour to burst back into her life. What she doesn’t need is all-American Zachary Murdoch—or a more mature and sensitive version of him—to schmooze his way into her heart again. She grew up loving the/this/that man until he dumped her five summers ago. Whatever shit-show/life drama she’s just been through was a stroll. What Zach put her though was a climb up Mount Everest. Barefoot. In a bikini.

Now a club-owner in Paris, Zach is intrigued by the troubled woman who was once the sweet girl he had to give up. Offering a shoulder for her to cry on is what he owes her. Loving her is what he lost the right to. Because there’s a reason he broke up with Lenor and that reason is why she’s in Paris.

But Paris is called the City of Love…

Will he be her turn at love?

*** You Turn is a contemporary adult romance and part of the Second Chances series. However, Lenor’s story can be read as a stand-alone novel. There is no cliffhanger. ***

You Turn is a wonderfully romantic read with emotion and angst that keep you turning the pages.  I love second chance love stories and that is what we get with Lenor and Zach’s story.

We meet Zach right away and get a piece of the history Lenor and Zach share.  I was immediately intrigued and needing to know what happened from that time to the now, 5 years later. The past and present transitions were smooth and provide the perfect insight to Lenor and Zach.  We’re able to see the changes each make in their lives as they fight for what they want and how they want to live their lives.

You Turn hits all the right buttons, the reader gets an emotional second chance love story, great characterization and a romantic setting.  This was the first I’ve read by Marion Croslydon but won’t be the last.

APD Amazon GR SW

A Perfect Secret Series, #3

New Adult Contemporary Romance and Mystery

Released September 2014

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | iTunes

The one secret she can’t stand to keep is the one she can’t afford to tell.

The perfect little rich girl, River Pearl Sutton has always done what her family expected of her. She’d become the perfect little beauty queen, the perfect child model and now her global success locks her into a life she never really chose.

Coming home for the summer to prepare for the Founder’s Day Festival, a celebration of her lauded ancestor, she is tasked by her father to write a speech to be delivered at the end of the party.

Returning to Hope Parish brings her back into close proximity with sweet-talking, skirt-chasing Braxton Outlaw, the boy who always seemed immune to her charms in high school. But now he looks at her with those challenging blue eyes, both intimidating and seductive at the same time. Using research of her family lineage and his as way to get close to this bad boy, they fall into a hot, torrid affair.

She stumbles across a terrible secret that could bring to ruin not only her reputation, but the reputation and standing of her family. But when her infatuation with Brax grows into something that she can’t live without, she must decide what to do. Keep the secret and lose Brax or destroy her family and lose them.

It’s an awful, heartrending perfect dilemma.

My Review

A Perfect Dilemma was the perfect story to end the A Perfect Secret series.  Braxton Outlaw and River Pearl Sutton take us back to Hope Parish, Louisiana.  The bayou was the perfect setting for this suspense and secret filled read.

I loved that Brax and River Pearl see beneath the surface and more in each other.  The mystery solving, suspense and secrets kept me engaged in the story and needing to know what was going to happen.

A Perfect Secret, Book #2

How can they have a future when their past is based on a lie?

The perfect preacher’s daughter, Verity Fairchild, has something that only she and God know about and she wants to keep it that way. Her mistake was easy to keep secret when she was out of town, but now that she’s come back to Hope Parish for the summer, she comes face-to-face with the guy responsible for it all. Boone Outlaw nearly ruined everything for her and despite the fact that he’s now working at her father’s church, she’s determined to stay as far away from him as possible.

Boone Outlaw doesn’t understand Verity’s anger towards him. He barely knows her. In high school she was Holy Mary Verity and she was off limits – except in his dreams where Verity seems way too real. Most of the time he was wasted in high school, not the type of boy Verity would ever look at twice, but he can’t shake the feeling that something might have happened between them. He’s going to break his own rules to get the answers he needs straight from Verity.

What will Verity do when she finds something in Boone that she never knew existed and her perfect mistake is the only thing that could stand between them and their happiness? Will she sacrifice Boone to keep her secret?

Back to the bayou and Hope Parish, Louisiana for Boone and Verity’s story.  This second book in the A Perfect Secret series, A Perfect Mistake, was an enjoyable read.  I couldn’t help but fall for Boone and Verity.

A Perfect Mess

A Perfect Secret, Book #1

I know what you did last summer.

Aubree Walker, the perfect girl most likely to succeed, is sure there’s only one person who knows what she did.

Booker Outlaw, one of the three Outlaw brothers—all identical, all gorgeous, all from the wrong side of the tracks, and all pure bad boys. He was always the unpredictable one, the one who would be brash enough to make it big self-publishing horror novels on the internet. He promised never to tell, but everyone knows you can never trust an Outlaw.

Then a year later, in the middle of the night, she receives a phone call at Tulane. Her aunt, who took her in after her mother’s death, is in a coma under suspicious circumstances. Now she has to face that one person who knows all about what she did that summer—sexy Booker.

Returning to Hope Parish to be with her aunt, stirs up all those ugly memories. When Aubree starts getting threats, she can’t help but wonder if what she did last summer was tied to her aunt’s “accident.” Afraid, she turns to the only person who knows the truth and Booker doesn’t hesitate to offer his broad shoulder for her to lean on. But Booker has a secret of his own that could crush their fledgling relationship.

My Review

I couldn’t wait to read A Perfect Mess…bad boys and Louisiana, two of my favorite things.  Of course I loved Booker Outlaw, the hot guy bad boy that has made a successful career writing horror novels.  And I really liked Aubree, the perfect girl that has secrets.

A Perfect Mess hooked me with the characters but kept me reading with the twists and secrets to be uncovered.  I couldn’t put this story down until the very end.  I loved that while I was reading it felt like I was right there in the bayou and seeing this story unfold.  I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

About WHATEVER LIFE THROWS AT YOU:

Seventeen-year-old Annie Lucas is too young to remember her dad’s glory days as a pitcher for the Yankees. So when her father is offered a coaching position with the Kansas City Royals, Annie is intrigued to see the baseball side of her dad. Of course, knowing he’ll be a mentor to hot young rookie pitcher, Jason Brody, certainly makes it more enticing.

After an awkward first meeting with “Brody” involving very little clothing and a much-too-personal locker room interview, Annie’s convinced she knows Brody’s type: arrogant, self-involved, bossy. As her dad grows closer to the pitching phenom, the friction between Brody and Annie increases. But when opening day arrives and it looks like both her dad and Brody may lose their dream jobs, Annie steps up and offers support. She and Brody call a truce that grows into friendship—and beyond. Falling for a rising star who’s quickly reaching a level that involves rabid female fans is not what Annie would call smart, except suddenly she’s getting hints that maybe this crush isn’t one-sided after all. Could someone like Brody actually fall for a girl like her?

My Review

Whatever Life Throws at You is one of my favorite reads of 2014!  From the beginning I was hooked in with Annie’s narration.  I was intrigued with her family dynamic and couldn’t wait to know more.  I love that this story is character driven and highlights a multitude of relationships.

Annie, the pitching coach’s seventeen year old daughter, becomes friends with Jason Brody, the nineteen year old bad boy rookie pitcher.  The portrayal of their relationship feels realistic and I loved that we get to see their relationship develop.

The timing couldn’t be better with Major League Baseball playoffs occurring with the Kansas City Royals one of the teams trying to get to the World Series.  If I wasn’t a Baltimore  Orioles fan, I’d be cheering “Go Royals” this year just because of Whatever Life Throws at You.

Football prowess and jaw-dropping good looks made Rob a star in high school. Out in the real world, his job and his relationships are going nowhere. He can’t pinpoint exactly what’s missing until Lauren comes back to town, bringing old feelings and new dreams with her. But he’s the guy that women love and leave—not the one who makes them think of forever.

Though she’s terrified of opening up, Lauren’s ready to take that chance. Because the only thing more important than figuring out where you truly belong is finding the person you were meant to be with.

My Review

I loved everything about As Long As You Love Me…everything.  After I Want It That Way, I couldn’t wait to read Lauren’s story and see what was going to happen with her best friend Nadia’s brother, Rob.

Ann Aguirre gives us characters that are very relatable and dealing with real life issues.  I thought her portrayal of Rob was refreshing and genius.  I fell hard for Rob.  In appearance Rob has it all going on, the hot, hunky athlete but that hides some unexpected insecurity.  Lauren has her own issues that have her back in her hometown.  I loved how they each saw into the other beyond what was on the surface.

Ann Aguirre has become an auto-buy for me!  I’m looking forward to the next in the 2B trilogy, The Shape of My Heart…can’t wait.
