Chasing Truth (Eleanor Ames #1)

by Julie Cross

Publication Date:  September 27, 2016

Publisher:  Entangled TEEN

At Holden Prep, the rich and powerful rule the school—and they’ll do just about anything to keep their dirty little secrets hidden.

When former con artist Eleanor Ames’s homecoming date commits suicide, she’s positive there’s something more going on. The more questions she asks, though, the more she crosses paths with Miles Beckett. He’s sexy, mysterious, arrogant…and he’s asking all the same questions.

Eleanor might not trust him—she doesn’t even like him—but they can’t keep their hands off of each other. Fighting the infuriating attraction is almost as hard as ignoring the fact that Miles isn’t telling her the truth…and that there’s a good chance he thinks she’s the killer.

Chasing Truth is a Young Adult mystery that introduces us to former con artist Eleanor Ames.  The cast of characters would be enough to keep you reading but the interaction and pace won’t let you put the book down.

Chasing Truth is the first Eleanor Ames book but definitely shouldn’t be the last.  Julie Cross delivers a pager turner filled will action, intrigue, teenage drama, and surprising twists and turns.  I can’t wait to see what Ellie will be up to next.

cease-ebook-cover-finalDeath silences. Love echoes.

Ruby Buckley is no stranger to loss. She lost her twins in their infancy, lost her son to his demons, and lost herself to a life she never wanted.

Until him.

Jim Stone is lost. He’s a father who doesn’t know how to parent, a brother who doesn’t know why he ever patched in, and is completely numb to everything around him.

Until her.

Craving normalcy, Ruby wants to live straight, but that’s easier said than done when a member of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club is determined to make her his old lady. She’s plagued by a past she can’t escape. He vows to give her a better future, even if means delivering the impossible.

But falling in love was only the beginning.

Twenty years later and they’re still going strong, even if the world around them is crumbling. Jim’s put his club on the line and given Ruby the impossible– her now adult twins she thought she’d lost forever. She has everything she’s always wanted.

But at what cost?

Love is never more real than when it’s forever.

cease-ebook-cover-finalPROLOGUE

Time after time, I never cease to be amazed at how deeply I can be hurt.

Just a flesh wound, Mama.

Jim’s words echo in my mind over and over again. They’re all I hear as I watch my husband— the man who taught me that men can be good— being lifted into the back of the van by his brothers. Blood pools at the bottom of his vest and drips to the pavement.

My daughter— the precious baby I thought I’d lost forever— is being carried to the van by the boy who became my son at the age of eight. She’s lost so much blood. The dark red liquid completely covers her face, neck, and chest. My heart falls into my stomach as I catch sight of the blood smeared all over Ryan’s cut and his face.

My husband’s been gutted and my daughter’s been sliced open.

Both bleeding.

One dying.

Maybe two.

Hopefully none.

And all I can think about is my own selfish need to keep them with me. If I’m not a mother to my daughter or a wife to my husband, then I don’t know who I am. I’ll still have my sons— all three of them— but it’s not the same. My boys don’t need me the way my man and my girl do. I won’t get to hang on to Michael for much longer. He’s a Mancuso and he’ll be staying in New York to take over the family— and it doesn’t matter how I feel about that. Ian, my eldest, has his wife Mindy. He thinks he still needs me, but he doesn’t. Ryan, the boy I have to remind myself isn’t really mine, has Alex. My daughter.

If we lose her, there’s nothing anyone can do to make it better. Ryan will never recover and neither will I. He’ll shut down, just like Rage did when we lost Sylvia, and even I won’t be able to reach him then.

If we lose Jim, we lose our rock. I lose the only person I ever trusted enough to give my whole heart to besides my children.

I won’t survive it.

Excerpt #2She shifted backward, bumping into her car. “Please don’t do that.”

He brows dipped. “Don’t what?”

“Try to make me feel better. Give me a boost or whatever. Because, seriously, I don’t need your pity.”

He laughed. This sharp bark of a thing that echoed through the empty parking lot. “Pity? Are you kidding?”

Her teeth clamped together, anger rising. “You—”

But he moved so fast it made the rest snag in her throat. Both of his hands landed on the car behind her, caging her in and bringing his face close to hers. “Ready for completely and wholeheartedly inappropriate?”

He wasn’t touching her anywhere but he may as well have pressed his entire body against her for the way her blood went hot. She couldn’t speak. Couldn’t move. All she could see were those dark eyes and inhale the scent of him, spicy food and man.

“I reeled myself in tonight. I asked you to dinner for selfish reasons. But once we were there and got to talking, I had a crisis of conscience. You’re working with me. You’ve been through hell this week. You didn’t need me complicating that. I forced myself to play by the rules. I made myself be good.” He leaned close to her ear, his breath coasting along her neck. “But don’t think for one second that I didn’t want to talk you into my bed tonight, that I didn’t want to show you that side of myself you saw in the hallway, and that I haven’t been thinking exactly how good it would feel to have you beneath me.”

All ability to breathe ceased inside her, her body going still as stone and melty as lava.

“So you can accuse me of a lot of things, Cora. Crossing lines. Being selfish. Acting inappropriately. Because I’m doing all of those things right now. But one thing you can’t accuse me of is pity.” He pushed off the car, freeing her from the invisible hold, and took a step back. “I’ll see you on Monday. And if you decide not to show up anymore because of this, I’ll make sure you’re paid through the next two weeks.”

He turned and strode toward his car, leaving her standing there trembling and breathing hard and… way too turned on.

She wet her lips, a surge of bravery welling in her. “You never told me your breaking-the-law story.”

The words rang through the distance between them, and she thought he might keep walking, but he stopped and turned around. “We’ll need to schedule a seven-course meal to get through all of that.”

“That long of a list, huh?”

His mouth kicked up at the corner. All bad boy and charm. “Yep, you game?”

She swallowed past the dryness in her throat, knowing what he was asking was about way more than a dinner. She was so damn far off the reservation. “I might be…”

His gaze heated, slid over her with open appreciation. “It’s a date, then. Goodnight, hallway girl.”

Meet Roni

Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. Though she’ll forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Dallas with her husband and son.If she’s not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching reality television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to rockstars, er, rock concerts. Yeah, that’s it. She is the National Bestselling Author of The Loving on the Edge series from Berkley Heat.

Roni Loren’s Loving on the Edge series is one of my absolute favorites to pick up and read.  I’m always looking forward to each next book.
Loving You Easy is the latest and gives us Cora, Ren, and Hayes.  There is no doubt that the sexy, hot menage steam the pages.  And the twists with the online world on Hayven keep the pages turning.
I couldn’t help but fall for this trio.  I think they could be my new favorites in one of my favorite series.  I’m looking forward to reading more and more Loving on the Edge stories.  Can’t wait for the next book!

COVER REVEAL

TwelveTruthsandaLie

Summary:
Aurora Jones has it all—a job she loves as a child and family therapist, supportive friends, and a decent place to live. What she doesn’t have is much luck when it comes to dating men. And not only are her choices terrible, she also hasn’t been boyfriend free since she was a teenager. So she places herself on a sabbatical of sorts. No dating for twelve months.

Cameron Miller has had a crappy year. His girlfriend fell for his best friend and to ease the pain, he drowns his troubles in more booze and women than he can count. When his buddies finally slap some sense into him and urge him to focus on his new position as a special education teacher in an urban school district, he decides to get his act together.

Away from the prying eyes of their mutual friends, Cameron and Aurora agree to hang out once a week in their newly dubbed chastity club. Number of members? Two. It’s a chance to find solace, companionship, and something neither anticipated – a burgeoning attraction. But when Cameron invites Aurora to be his fake date at the reunion his ex-girlfriend and best friend will be attending, their passion ignites. What happens in chastity club stays in chastity club, right? Until they discover that a year of self-truths might actually lead them to true love.
