101 Ways to Make Love to a Spoon

Exclusive Excerpt:

Jesus Christ, Madison was going to be the death of him.

He’d been hoping to avoid her when he showed up to collect his brother, and the last thing he expected was to find her in a goddamn wet T-shirt, looking so fucking hot he almost shot off a load then and there.

Brad drummed his fingers on his steering wheel and shifted in his seat, uncomfortable as his cock pressed insistently against his unforgiving jeans. Christ, seeing her in that T-shirt, blinking up at him with those dark bedroom eyes of hers as the lush swell of her body beckoned his touch—his cock—had damn near done him in.

He’d be lying if he said he didn’t want her in his bed. Every time he looked at her all he could think about was caging her beneath him and fucking her long and hard, driving balls deep until she screamed out his name. Oh yeah, he’d make her scream, and when he did—contrary to what Sophie thought—everyone would hear it.

Maybe then he’d be able to stop thinking about her when he was alone at night. Hell, who was he kidding? He thought about her even when he wasn’t alone.

He’d always liked his kid brother’s best friend, but six months ago, after returning home from a long overseas tour, he suddenly began to see the sweet girl next door in different ways.

Sinful ways…

But he wasn’t going to act on his urges, not when she had something going on with Jonah. Shit…

Truthfully, Brad wasn’t sure what kind of relationship the two had, considering he’d seen them both date other people over the years. But from the comfort level between them, to the way they took care of each other, even going so far as to sharing a place when Jonah had finished his last tour, he knew there had to be deeper feelings involved, and he wasn’t about to take her to his bed, no matter how much he wanted her naked and beneath him. Or naked and on top.

Or just plain naked.

Jonah tossed his rucksack into the truck bed and slid into the cab, pulling Brad’s thoughts back from fantasyland. “Hey, bro, what’s up?”

Brad put his key into the ignition and turned the engine over. “Nothing.” He clenched his jaw hard as he watched Madison and Sophie exit from the downstairs bakery. A frown marred Madison’s pretty face as she spoke to her friend, the Sweetie’s Bakery Closed sign on the door behind her rattling against the glass pane as she locked up. Brad gripped the steering wheel harder. He hated seeing her living and working in such a shitty place, and he knew today’s loss of income was going to have a serious effect on her bank account.

“You have that look on your face again.”

Brad angled his head toward his brother. “What look is that?”

Jonah grinned. “The one you get just before you kick the shit out of me.”

Brad glared at his brother and scoffed. “Evidently, I should have beaten you more often.” Okay, so he might have roughed up his punk-ass brother a time or two over the years, but it was only because Jonah had needed it. The boy was a damn fool sometimes, getting into messes that Brad had to clean up behind him.

“Yeah, well, that’s a matter of opinion,” Jonah said.

He held his brother’s gaze. “You got something to say?”

Jonah held his hands up and laughed. “Nope.”

Madison tapped on the window and Jonah jumped onto the sidewalk to let her climb into the middle. Without conscious thought Brad’s eyes roamed the sexy curves she always kept hidden behind those baggy clothes and icing-stained apron. Damned if he didn’t want to peel those loose-fitting work clothes from her body so he could touch and kiss her lush contours until she writhed beneath him and cried out his name.

As Madison slid in beside him, her duffle bag clutched to her chest, want pumped through his veins, the sudden, urgent need to help himself to a taste of her sweetness pulling at him hard. Fuck. He looked away, staring at some random woman walking her dog while he did his damnedest to ignore his raging hard-on.

“Here, give me that.” Jonah took the bag from her and tossed it into the truck bed with his.

Once he jumped back into the cab, Brad put the vehicle into gear, turned his attention to the road ahead and slipped into traffic. Jonah punched up the volume on the radio and hooked his left arm over the back of the seat, pulling Madison toward him.

Brad tried to focus on his driving, he really did, but with Madison’s leg rubbing up against his it took effort to stay on the road.

He drove through the downtown core, and when they passed a vacant building, a For Sale sign on the window, Jonah turned to Madison. “Maybe when I get back we can look for a new place to live.”

She looked at the building, and there was a hint of gloom in her voice when she said, “I can’t afford to rent an apartment and a business front, and it won’t be easy to find a place where I can live upstairs and turn the main level into Sweetie’s.”

Jonah curved his arm around her and pulled her in closer. As she rested her head on his shoulder, he brushed a light kiss over her hair. “Don’t worry. I’ll be making some good coin out on the road. It’ll go a long way in finding something nicer than we have now.”

Feeling like a third wheel, an eavesdropper listening in on a private, intimate conversation, Brad cast a glance their way. His gut clenched when he saw Madison smile up at Jonah. Hell, the two of them even talked like an old married couple. There was no missing how much his brother cared for her, which only solidified Brad’s vow to keep his distance where Madison was concerned.

Of course, she wasn’t the first girl Brad had walked away from because of his brother. Jonah was fun, wild and had a reputation with the ladies. As teens, a few of Brad’s girlfriends had gravitated toward his charismatic younger brother. Even though Brad wanted to beat the shit out of Jonah for taking his girl instead of doing the honorable thing and backing off, Brad always walked away. Blood was blood and no way would he allow a girl to come between him and his brother. How much could any of those girls have cared anyway, if they had no trouble leaving one brother for the other? Besides, he’d promised his dad that he’d take care of Jonah, and as a man of his word, he chose his family battles carefully. As long as Jonah treated the women properly, there’d be no trouble between brothers.

His thoughts careened back to a couple years ago, to the night he found his fiancée Jocelyn in bed with another man—doing the one thing he wouldn’t dream of asking her to do for him, considering she’d blatantly told him oral sex was disgusting and there wasn’t a girl in the world who enjoyed giving it. Although she enjoyed the hell out of it when he’d gone down on her, which he did frequently. Fuck, he wasn’t sure what hurt more, seeing her mouth wrapped around some douchebag’s cock, or realizing how stupid she thought he was when she starting spilling lies, telling him it wasn’t what he thought. Sure, whatever. Wouldn’t be the first time a woman had fallen and landed with a hard-on in her mouth and a pair of balls in her hand. Oh yeah, shit like that happened all the time.

He could have stayed and fought for her, but any girl who would sleep with another man and lie about it while her fiancé was overseas fighting for their country wasn’t worth the battle. And after seeing the same thing happen to a few of his comrades, he’d come to learn that long-distance relationships never worked. Since Brad’s work continued to take him out of state, he decided never to get himself in that kind of situation again. No, now he was into casual sex, no commitments.

“Besides,” Jonah said, “Brad can help us turn any space into a bakery. Right, bro?”

“Yeah, sure.” Brad looked at Madison, and when she turned her bright-eyed smile his way, his heart nearly stopped.

She ran paint-chipped nails along the deep hollow of her throat, and as he watched the movement his mouth watered, his tongue wanting to follow the path of her hands. Heat throbbed through him, and his cock thickened once again, aching to pound into her, hard hot strokes that would leave them both sated and breathless and would finally, finally, get her out of his head.

“And if something else goes wrong with the place while I’m away, Brad’s your man,” Jonah said.

As Brad pictured himself stepping in for his brother, his mind ran wild with one delicious idea after the other, and he forced himself to cough, hoping it would rattle some sense back into his lust-drunk brain.

“Isn’t that right, Brad?”

“Yeah.” He nodded. “I can help you out with anything you need.”

Something flitted across her face when she asked, “Anything?”

“Yeah, anything,” he assured her, but when she drew her bottom lip between her teeth, and her eyes glazed over like she had other things on her mind, he wondered if they were still talking about her run-down rental…or something else entirely.

His Taste of Temptation Synopsis:

HisTasteOfTemptation-R[9]One affair, thirty days. I

n the Line of Duty, Book 3

Since his last relationship blew up in his face, bomb expert Brad Crosby has lost his appetite for “permanent”. But his kid brother’s best friend? Now there’s a curvy morsel he could wrap his lips around.

For years Brad has been the star of Madison Graham’s fantasies. If only she were the kind of put-together girl he prefers, not a pastry chef whose makeup consists of a dusting of powdered sugar on her nose. A belief that’s confirmed when her apartment floods and he offers to let her sleep in his bed—alone.

Wrapped in Brad’s sheets, she dreams of his touches, his kisses, the feel of his body on hers. Except her dreams feel like reality—and come morning, she realizes it wasn’t a dream at all. Soon the two are burning up the nights. But as Madison’s sweet love grows on him, Brad can’t help but think of extending their time together.

Too bad Madison keeps reminding him their affair has an expiration date. Warning: May contain heat, explosive sex, and Fourth of July fireworks that pale in comparison to the sparks between a sworn bachelor and a tempting pastry chef.

About I SAW HER STANDING THERE:

There’s a budding romance on Butler Mountain, but in the hornets’ nest known as the Abbott family, keeping a secret is no easy feat…

Colton Abbott and Lucy Mulvaney have a secret. Colton’s nosy siblings have begun to put the pieces together, but it’s not like Lucy to keep things from those closest to her—especially her best friend, Cameron, who recently moved to Vermont to live with her true love, Will. But Lucy isn’t about to tell Cam she’s having a fling…with Will’s brother.

Flitting between New York and Vermont is exhausting, so Lucy is looking forward to a long weekend with Colton at the Abbott family lake house in Burlington. Too bad Will and Cameron have the same idea, and once Colton and Lucy are caught red-handed (and red-faced), will their clandestine romance lose its appeal or will their secret beginnings be the start of something lasting?

Excerpt:

In the time it took to walk across the small room, Lucy summoned her inner she-cat vixen and prepared to do battle. Unlike the visitor she’d heard Colton talking to outside earlier, this one sounded young. She’d bet there was no lack of women interested in spending some time with her mountain man.

Her mountain man. Where in the hell had that thought come from, and when had she begun to think of him as hers? Probably about five minutes after she met him, if she were being honest with herself.

Realizing she needed to pull out her biggest guns, she tugged the neckline of her dress down to put her considerable cleavage to good use.

She cracked open the door wide enough to poke her head out, but not wide enough that the strikingly gorgeous blonde on Colton’s doorstep could see inside. “May I help you?” Lucy whispered.

Cold brown eyes took a quick assessing look at Lucy and dismissed her as no significant threat. She was used to the instant dismissal as well as the disdainful look. She’d been on the receiving end of it from other women for most of her adult life. “Where’s Colton, and who are you?”

“I’m Lucy, and Colton is under the weather.”

“What does that mean? Under the weather?”

“He’s not well.”

Blondie took a step back. “Oh . . . Who are you again?”

“Lucy.”

“And you’re his . . . his . . . ?”

“Nurse,” Lucy said. “I’m his nurse. I was called in to manage his injury.”

“Injury? What injury?”

“Oh you didn’t hear?” Lucy grimaced dramatically. “The axe caught him. In a bad, bad place. Don’t tell anyone I told you this, but he might not be able to, you know, ever again.”

Blondie’s eyes got all buggy. “Ever?”

“Never,” Lucy said gravely. “It’s as bad as it gets.”

“God, that’s an awful tragedy.”

“Indeed it is. I’ll be happy to tell him you came by, but he’s on some serious painkillers. It might be a while before he’s lucid again.”

“Yeah . . . Um, sure. Tell him Angie was here, and I’m really, really sorry to hear about his . . . um, his injury.”

“I’ll be sure to tell him. It was so good of you to check on him.”

“I’d better go. I wouldn’t want to disturb him.”

“That’s very kind of you. I’m sure he’ll appreciate your consideration.”

Lucy watched Angie run more than walk to her car and smiled with satisfaction when Angie left a cloud of dust in her wake. That, Lucy thought, should take care of that. Pleased with herself and her quick thinking, she shut the door and turned to find Colton standing right behind her.

She let out a shriek of surprise.

BITTERSWEET – Favorite Quotes

By Sunday James

  • “I was trying not to do that all night.” – Greg

Greg says this to Cathy right after their first kiss, and there’s just something kind of sexy about the notion that all through the evening it’s been one of the only things he could think about, but that he’s been holding back.

  • “Hey, Carlito… I brought drugs. Now it’s a party, huh?” – Cathy

This is a cute moment between Cathy and her brother Carl, when she goes over to look after him when he has the flu.

  • “Hey… You know what you want, huh. Do you want this?” – Greg

Greg asks Cathy this question right before a nice steamy scene that’s one of my favorites in Bittersweet… J

abouthebook

When a TV production company decides Dogwood, Virginia is the perfect location to shoot their new teen series Bittersweet, the town is abuzz with excitement. But twenty-one-year-old local girl Cathy Johnson has too much going on in her life to waste time being star-struck. Her mother walked out on the family when Cathy was a young girl and her brother Carl was barely out of diapers. She’s always felt a sense of responsibility to help raise him, and skipped college after graduation following her father Joe’s life-threatening heart attack. Now three years later, she works full-time in the family restaurant to help make ends meet. Life hasn’t exactly been peachy, but Cathy is OK with it. She loves her hometown, and doesn’t want some fancy TV show coming in and changing everything. To her, ‘bittersweet’ is just the word that sums up her love life after her relationship with her high school sweetheart ended in disaster. But since then she’s hardly had time to brush her hair, let alone think about romance – even the kind being played out in front of the cameras by twenty-something actors posing as teenagers.
But all that changes for Cathy when charming, intense, impossibly sexy outsider Greg Moran arrives in Dogwood along with the Bittersweet cast and crew. She and the mysterious New Yorker have undeniable chemistry, but if Cathy thought she was guarded…? Greg blows hot (very, very hot) and cold with her romantically, leaving Cathy’s head in a spin. If she’s willing to drop her emotional walls, why can’t he? What is it in Greg’s past – or present – that means he’s keeping her at arm’s length?
One thing’s for certain: Cathy and Greg are magnetically drawn to one another, but they’ll have to fight to keep their relationship from turning sour.
If it’s hard to let go of the past, falling in love can be BITTERSWEET…

excerpt

He locked his eyes on hers, telling her the truth for the first time in a long time. “Don’t you ever get tired of fighting, Brynny?”

He kept his tone light, but she must have read the intensity in his gaze because her blue eyes went slightly wide. “Do you?”

I don’t mind the squabbling. I just want more. But it was too soon. She still looked like a wary cat ready to call her stupid boyfriend at the first sign of her being turned on. And he knew he could turn her on. Easily. Her eyes kept moving to his lips and her pupils were dilated.

She wanted him. She’d wanted him when she he’d kissed her in the driveway last week, and when he’d rubbed against her in the kitchen this morning, and she wanted him now.

But she wouldn’t take him. Not until she’d gotten rid of Jimmy what’s-his-name. If he kissed her now, she’d hate him. Hate herself for liking it when she was supposed to be loyal to an absent boyfriend.

He allowed himself one more lingering touch of his fingers on her palm. Just enough to remind her of what it had been like with them. Enough to have her sucking in her breath and springing away from him.

debbiesreview

I love Lauren Layne!  Well, I love her books…no, I think I must love LL.   Made for You is another winner.  Brynn and Will belong together and we get to see them finally get there.

From the very beginning, I couldn’t put Made for You down until I read the very last sentence.  I was immediately hooked and needed to know what was going to happen next.  By the end, the emotions that I felt left me feeling like I had taken a ride on a roller coaster.

Will and Brynn are the best of characters.  Layne gives us relatable characters, characters that we imagine knowing.  I love that Brynn and Will are not perfect but they are perfect for each other.

Made for You is one of the best reads of the season.  I can’t wait to see what comes next from Lauren Layne.

excerpt

Glancing up, I suck my breath in when I find dark eyes connected to mine, eyes so dark they’re almost black, and the energy in them is enough to freeze me in place.

A boy is attached to the dark gaze.

A man.

He’s probably no more than twenty or twenty-one, but everything about him screams man. There’s no boy in him. That part of him is very clearly gone. I see it in his eyes, in the way he holds himself, in the perceptive way he takes in his surroundings, then stares at me with singular focus, like we’re somehow connected by a tether. He’s got a million contradictions in his eyes….aloofness, warmth, mystery, charm, and something else I can’t define.

He’s muscular, tall, and wearing a tattered black sweatshirt that says Irony is lost on you in orange letters. His dark jeans are belted with black leather, and a silver band encircles his middle finger.

Dark hair tumbles into his face and a hand with long fingers impatiently brushes it back, all the while his eyes are still connected with mine. His jaw is strong and masculine, with the barest hint of stubble.

His gaze is still connected to mine, like a livewire, or a lightning bolt. I can feel the charge of it racing along my skin, like a million tiny fingers, flushing my cheeks. My lungs flutter and I swallow hard.

And then, he smiles at me.

At me.

Because I don’t know him and he doesn’t know better.

I’m doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I’m drowning more and more each day. So I reach out for a lifeline.

Dare DuBray.

He’s my savior and my anti-Christ. His arms are where I feel safe, where I’m afraid, where I belong, where I’m lost. He will heal me, break me, love me and hate me.
He has the power to destroy me.

Maybe that’s ok. Because I can’t seem to save Finn and love Dare without everyone getting hurt.

Why? Because of a secret.

A secret I’m so busy trying to figure out, that I never see it coming.

You won’t either.

“Searching for You” by Jennifer Probst gives us Riley and Dylan stranded in a snowstorm.  I liked that they had history and weren’t the strangers they expected to meet on their match up.

“It’s a Wonderful Tangled Christmas Carol” by Emma Chase was a fun way to catch up with Drew and Kate.  I love reading from Drew’s POV.

I loved “Saving Grace” by Kristen Proby.  I didn’t want this story to end.  I loved Grace and Bax.

“Safe in His Arms” by Melody Anne is a sweet read.  I thought Natalie and Hawk were so cute and very likable.

“Rekindle the Flame” by Kate Meader has a hot not to be missed firefighter.  I couldn’t help but pull for Beck and Darcy.

I really liked all the stories in this anthology.  I loved that some of them were stories that fit in with existing series.  I can’t wait to pick up more stories by these authors.

abouthebook

He is everywhere. He surrounds me, permeates the air, wends his way under my skin. I can’t escape his strength, his intensity, his presence.

I’m trapped.

There’s nowhere to run.

Nowhere to hide.

But even if I could escape…would I be strong enough to leave?

I needed something—something big—to get myself out of the rut I’d fallen into after the car accident that killed my sister. This sailing trip was meant only to mark a new chapter in my life. Until Ethan Williams stepped on board.

Ethan radiated confidence. His darkly handsome good looks and ocean-blue eyes mesmerized me. But it was the way he looked at me that drew me in. He wasn’t looking at my past or at my scars, but the real me behind all that baggage I was trying so hard to leave behind.

But Ethan had secrets—dark, dangerous secrets. I was trapped in the middle of the ocean in a tangle of lies, sex, and violence. The problem was, I was happy to be trapped forever…if it meant I could have him.

Warning: Swept Away is a 4-part serial. This story is messy and twisted and very, very sexy. It is not for people under 18.

excerpt

Ethan gets up, and it looks like shutters are closing over his eyes. The heat in them fades to a simmer and then flattens until his gaze is completely unreadable. Impenetrable. It’s the expression he had on the phone with Donna. It’s the expression he uses on me when he’s digging that chasm between us. I already know that expression too well.

He gazes into my eyes, cool and distant. “As I said, I don’t do relationships. And that’s what you need. Someone who’ll be there for you. That’s not me.”

Kyle told me about how Ethan hasn’t been photographed with a woman for eight years. Has he not had a girlfriend for eight years? “But why?”

He doesn’t answer. The most he’ll give me is a shake of his head.

I want to pull out my hair in frustration. It seems simple: I want him. He knows it. He said he wanted me too. Then why not act on it? All this “I don’t do relationships” crap—who cares? This isn’t a happily ever after. This is just being together.

He’s being presumptuous to think he knows what’s best for me, anyway. There’s no way he could possibly know what I need.

A thought slams into me. While my nature is to care about people I’m physically close to, maybe I can switch that part of myself off. I want to be with Ethan, and if I enter into a physical relationship with my eyes wide open, then there will be no concern of bringing emotions and thoughts of “relationships” into it.

Our time together is limited anyway. There’s no reason this needs to go beyond the time parameters of this trip.

I can do it. I can control this. I want to do it.

“You’re wrong about me.” The steel hardens in my own eyes. “In a few weeks, I’m going to be starting a new job, and I want to focus on that. But we’re out in the middle of the ocean, and this isn’t the real world. We can do whatever we want out here—be whatever we want to be.”

The shutters over his eyes fly open suddenly, and there’s a storm raging behind them.

“Do you think I haven’t thought about that?” he grits out, taking a step closer to me. Energy bristles from him. “But what happens when we go home? We go our separate ways, back to our lives? It’s not going to be that easy, Tara, and you know it. I don’t want to hurt you, damn it.”

I want this—want him—so badly, I’m going to fight for a chance. I’ll wash my hands of him and go on with my life when we get back to LA. I can do that—I know I can.

“You’re not going to hurt me, because I understand what you’re saying. I understand that this can’t continue once we’re home, and that you don’t want a relationship. I get it. I don’t need or want a relationship either. I have a life to go back to in LA, too. But for now, I want you, Ethan.”

He closes his eyes and makes a low noise that sounds like a groan.

“Give me two weeks.” In two weeks’ time, we’ll be in Hawaii, and he’ll probably be heading home.

I remember that night at the convenience store a year ago—how leaving home and walking down the block was the bravest thing I’d done since the accident. But it doesn’t even hold a candle to this.

This is the bravest thing I’ve ever done—before or after the accident. I’ve thrown myself out there, laid myself out as some kind of a temporary offering. But that’s exactly what I want, and I’m going after it.

Where did this assertive Tara come from? I like her.

My face is blazing hot. Tiny shudders skitter over my skin from my toes to my hair.

But I know he wants me. And judging by the look on his face, my offer has tempted him. He stares at me, his expression torn.

Then his lips tighten, the shutters over his eyes slam shut once again, and pain stabs at me, bitter and cold, in my chest. I know what his next words are going to be.

“I can’t. I’m sorry.”

He turns and walks away.
